Use this simple checklist to design a gaming application.
CONCEPT DESIGN:
Title: In most cases, make it memorable rather than descriptive of content.
Topic/Genre/World: The genre of the story, the time & place in which the story takes place.
Target Audience: Who is the story for – be as specific as possible?
Story/Character’s Goal: What happens in the story and what is the ultimate outcome?
Interface Setting: How does the Audience/User encounter the story?
Experience for User: How does he/she interact and experience the narrative?
Graphical Main Page: You may do this with a sketch or words, preferably both.
STORY ELEMENTS:
Characters: Describe their age, gender, background, and appearance.
Game/Scenario Premise: Describe the story premise and game concept.
Script Treatment: Detail all the activities and dialogue of characters in different locations.
Locations: What is each place/game level like, and what is accomplished there?
Plots: What happens to the characters in each location/game level?
Themes (Mood): What is the look and feel of the story?
Flowchart: Outlines choices and options, with the opening scene or user entry first.
WRITING A STORY SEQUENCE:
Write: What each character says when they reach each location/game level.
Describe: What they see when they get there.
What moveable objects/props are available and what they do.
What each character’s goal is at that location.
Does the location or level present an obstacle, or offer information?
Sketch: Major characters, important props and three locations/game levels.
Layouts for a Site Map, Timeline, Flowchart or “Conversation Tree”.
